Macau (Part 1)

Ok, go to the Shenzhen Cruise Center. It’s by Sea World, a Shenzhen metro stop and mall, near where you can see the ocean. It might be a stop away, a 10 minute walk or so, it’s a big building, you can’t miss it when you get there. This area is also known as the She Kou area. Nan Shan mountain is also around this area, and it is free to climb.

Sea World - Exit Sea World when you want to go get something to eat, some coffee, check out the Sea World Culture and Art Center, check out the view to Hong Kong, and find your way to the Shenzhen Cruise Center. You might have to take the subway another stop.

Inside the Sea World Culture and Art Center. It’s free to hang out, but exhibitions cost up to $10.

Bring your passport with you. Go to the 2nd floor of the Cruise Center and request to buy a ticket to Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal. Macau has 2 terminals, the Outer Harbour and the Taipa. Now you have tickets for tomorrow. Bring your luggage and passport.

Here’s your boat. Once you get to the Macanese ferryport, exchange your RMB for Macanese Pataca and head immediately to the taxi queue. I say immediately because lines can get long and taxis will take a while to come.

I was lucky and got a good spot in line even though I wasted my time trying to use an ATM for some reason. Just exchange your money at the exchange counter and get Macanese Pataca. Maybe some HKD if you’re going to Hong Kong later. There are way more money exchange stores in Macau on the streets, compared to Hong Kong.

I stayed at the Macau Masters Hotel, and there are several of them in the city. Luckily, my taxi driver brought me to the correct one. About a 50 Pataca ride; about 7 dollars. It was a medium length ride, through some narrow streets; the streets were packed with tourists , it must have been a weekend.

I stayed at this Masters location. I remember it because it was on “the water”. It was good for one person - I had to sleep diagonally for my body to fit completely on the bed.
